Luxurious mandolin by Luigi Salsedo, 1899
A very ornated made mandolin by Luigi Salsedo in 1899. Everything still in its original condition, the back is made in rosewood with 29 scalloped ribs with silver linings in between. The fingerboard has 17 frets and is entirely covered with tortoiseshell and motherpearl. Several motherpearl ornaments adorn the main frets.
The top is adorned with motherpearl motifs, has a real tortoiseshell scratchplate that is richly embellished with motherpearl, and more MOP decorations around the soundhole. The neck is veneered with tortoiseshell, with motherpearl decoration along the fingerboard. The head is entirely covered in tortoiseshell with a pin in bone crowning the structure. The machinehead is made of silver with engraved flowers. The tuners are made of exquisite motherpearl. The bridge is in ebony with motherpearl decorations, all original.
The mandolin is in great condition and apart from two very fine cracks on the turtle veneer along the neck (which don't affect the sound or usability), it is in pristine condition. The mandolin is extremely well preserved and is a great example of the fine work of Luigi Salsedo. Original wooden case included.
