First things first, this plane is in pretty bad shape. It needs work to get it back to a good user but I think it could be a very enjoyable and worthwhile project for a person that wants to put work into restoring a quality Scottish infill plane. It's no good to me sitting on a shelf. Would love to see what you do with it.
Dimensions: 9" long and 3" wide. The iron by Mathieson is 2 & 1/4" wide.
Condition: the main area of concern is the sole. The sole is badly pitted and needs lapped flat which will be a considerable job but most surely satisfying. You can see in my photos that the edge of the heel had some chipping to the casting.
The Infill is beautiful wood. Definitely Brazilian Rosewood. It is solid but has many areas of damage as evidenced in my photos. As the plane is actually solid with no movement in the infill, it could be used 'as is' but you may very well want to add your own infill. This would be relatively straightforward due to its screw sided construction.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
Enjoy!
