Tom winters was educated at the Glasgow school of art in the 1960s where he specialized in mural design. He taught in and around Glasgow for a number of years, becoming head of Art and Design in secondary school on the outskirts of the city. While teaching he was commissioned to paint various murals including those at the local church of Scotland, a children's day center in Glasgow and a show house in the Scottish exhibition center. Among artists who have influenced his paintings over the years Tom would include Paul Klee, George Braque and the German Expressionists as well as Scottish contemporaries. His own work reflects his interest in boats, harbors and still life, painted in his own Varity of styles and Media.
