The precision quality of bearings are rated by the ABEC scale. The
ABEC rating for bearings commences at ABEC 1 which is seen in most
bearing applications for bicycles supplied from the factory. Higher
end bearings for bikes are ABEC 3 or even ABEC 5 for very expensive
precision hubs for instance. We at Kinetic only supply ABEC 3 rated
bearings - If you are looking at a product that doesn't mention it's
ABEC rating, it could be safe to assume, it is not rated or only
supplied to ABEC 1 standard. MAX/FULL Complement Bearings
The
frame pivot bearings supplied are MAX or FULL complement type. Unlike wheel
bearings that have a nylon cage separating the balls, the Max
Complement frame pivot bearings are packed full of balls and do not have a cage. Max Complement bearings can
withstand a higher load often experienced on a frame pivot. You do should not however fit these in hubs for instance - in a hub there is a much higher heat build up, and therefore increased grease fill will be more important. Please be careful, as there are many retailers selling the wrong bearing for the wrong application. Grease A quick note regarding grease - the Mobil XHP22 grease which is usually found inside our frame bearings is the same grease that Hope and Enduro also use in many of their products. |
