Item:152723823923The fiberglass chairs were intentionally designed in 1948 by Charles and Ray Eames for the ‘International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design.’ This competition, sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art, was motivated by the urgent need in the post-war period for low-cost housing and furnishing designs adaptable to small housing units. This offered chair is from the second Zenith production in 1951/1952. The Eames fiberglass chairs of the second generation where produced without the significant rare rope along the seats edge. Due to improvements in the fiberglass moulding technique the designer decided to simplify the chairs design. The fiberglass shell was now also more hard and stable and as well less translucent. The second generation chairs where marked with the red Venice label. This more then 65 years old chair is in its exact original condition since its production in 1951/1952. It does not contain the Zenith foil label anymore as this specific label seems not to be as durable as the foil label of the first generation. The chair is whit its original dining height (Eiffel) base. The beautiful, homogenous and very rare greige or tan colour fiberglass shell is in a extraordinary nice vintage condition. It still contains its nice gloss and is free from any breaks or structural damages. A minor patina tells about the many years of this chairs life. There are no chips or mentionable flaws on that shell. Please refer to the pictures provided. The nicely aged original metal Eiffel base does not have any repairs or rewelds. The glides may have been replaced one time. This is an extraordinary example of American design history in an amazingly beautiful and all original condition. More pictures are available upon request. The chair can be picked-up in Zurich/Switzerland or shipped, whatever you wish. Payment at pick up or in advance if shipped by parcel post Terms: Vintage items do have a long history due to their age and do tell interesting stories by their beautiful patina and signs of wear of their previous owners.
