Item Details 3 part RJ45 unshielded 8P8C plugs for 4 pair cat6 UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cable. The contact blades are suitable for both stranded and solid wire types, sizes 23-24 AWG. Why might you need this plug, when there are cheaper "cat6" ones available? To answer that, you just need to check your cable. Along the jacket it should have details printed every metre, including the wire size. If it says 24 AWG, then it's probably stranded cat6 and most regular RJ45 plugs should fit. But if you want to fit RJ45 plugs to 4 pair cat6 UTP solid core/wire cable, that is usually 23 AWG, so if it says 23 AWG on your cable jacket, then it will be too big/thick for regular RJ45 plugs, but not too big for these. To overcome the problem of fitting the bigger, thicker 23AWG wires, the pins and layout of the plug are staggered rather than side by side in a line. This is one reason why you have the other parts of the plug, the inserts, so you can fit up the cable upto these staggered pins. The inserts also help keep the twisted pairs together deeper into the plug, giving better performance.
