This rare piece is in excellent, undamaged, clean condition.   Size : Approx.  6 " tall,    3 1⁄4  "  wide   The image of this hand carved relief is an interpretation of an ancient bas-relief of a Hittite chariot in combat (see last photos), the archer drawing his bow, an enemy trampled beneath the horse who has an arrow embedded in his chest. This motive dates from the 10th to the 8th century BC, to the period of Carchemish, the Late Hittite Kingdom in Syria. It is hand made from a kind of authentic serpantine stone and one of the interpretation of the ancient giant steles of Hittites, Anatolia.   From Wikipedia: “The Hittites were an Anatolian people who played an important role in establishing first a kingdom in Kussara (before 1750 BC), then the Kanesh or Nesha kingdom (c. 1750–1650 BC), and next an empire centered on Hattusa in north-central Anatolia (around 1650 BC).   This empire reached its height during the mid-14th century BC under Šuppiluliuma I, when it encompassed an area that included most of Anatolia as well as parts of the northern Levant and Upper Mesopotamia.”   If you want to learn more about the history of the hittites, please check out the following link:   https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/history-and-civilisation/2020/05/hittites-fast-war-chariots-threatened-mighty-egypt   Replica of the ancient Hittites hieroglyphs engraving relief, Queen and King Hattusili I. founder of the ancient city of Hattusa. Queen and King Hattusili holding the Tree of Life is a symbol of love, life and eternity. The chariot relief was used by the Hittites in the Battle of Kadesh, the first written war treaty in history.   What is the Process of Making this Replica?   Using knives and pocket knives, these artifacts were carved out of stones in Bogazkale. This stone is produced by processing Hittite motifs on serpentine, basalt, and slate stones. The master-apprentice relationship ensures the continued success of this art. Stone carving, the most critical income item for the region's residents, has been kept alive as a tradition passed down from father to son through the master-apprentice relationship for nearly 50 years.   In the Bogazkale district of Çorum, home to Hattusa, the capital of the Hittites, the local natural stones extracted from the mountainous region with a lot of effort are transformed into Hittite figures in skillful hands and presented to the taste of tourists who come to the ancient city. Hattusa Ancient City, which hosts the cultural heritage of Hatti and Hittites, one of the first civilizations of Anatolia, is among Turkey's favorite tourist places. It is the only ancient city on the UNESCO "World Cultural Heritage" and "Memory of the World" lists.   There is a short video that shows how these kind of plaques are intricately carved out by hand:   https://t1p.de/8x2ta   -----------   Please check out my other listings. - Happy to combine shipping.   Mesopotamian, Hittite, Assyrian Art, War Chariot Relief, Sumerian gift, Ancient Hittite Relief Artifact, Kadesh Chariot and Hattusili Royal Family Relief, Replica Ancient City of Hattusa Archaeological Artifact Assyrer Babylon Perser Streitwagen -------------------------------------------------------
