The History of Ferdinand and Isabella came early in Prescott's career and was his first writing after abandoning his legal career.
All volumes but the Charles the Fifth work are the new and revised edition edited by John Foster Kirk. Charles the Fifth is a New Edition.

William H Prescott was an American historian and Hispanist. He is widely recognised among historiographers to have become one of the most eminent historians of 19th century America.
CONDITION
In uniform half calf bindings with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with slight rubbing to spines and joints. Rubbing is heavier to joints. Loss to head of spine to Philip the Second volume III and Charles V volume I due to rubbing. Front hinges to Ferdinand and Isabella I, Conquest of Peru I, Conquest of Peru II and Philip the Second I are slightly strained but firm. Several volumes have been affected by damp staining, particularly to the boards, not harming the text of the internals. Loss at edge of front board to Conquest of Peru I due to damp staining and rubbing, small loss to the rear board as well. Loss and cockling to front board to Peru II including a damp stained patch to front joint. Rear board has also suffered loss to the board and the marbled paper, it is cockled. Loss to paper covered boards and to the board edges of Philip I and II due to water damage. Loss to tail of rear joint to Philip volume I. Damp staining and some mould to rear pastedown of Philip volume I. Loss to board edges to Charles V Volume II due to damp staining the same damp staining has resulted in small tide mark to outer margin of first 34 pages. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Offsetting from frontispieces to several volumes. Pages are bright with marks to margins from damp staining and spots to the first and last few pages.
