This is 25 grams (just under 1 ounce) of really high grade hide glue - the proper stuff! No bone, just good hide to make a strong flexible hide glue for bow making. Yes, another thing I couldn't find which I decided to sell because I couldn't find it because "nobody wants it"! This is a good quality high gel strength natural glue made from nothing but cow hide with a good compromise between strength and flexibility. Stronger and more flexible than glues made from a mixture of hide and bone, much stronger than rabbit glue, pearl glue etc which are designed for furniture making etc. This can be used for many primitive crafts including applying sinew and natural rawhide bow backings as well as wood crafts and other traditional projects. These glue cubes can be soaked in a little water until soft then gently heated to melt it, ideally in a double pot to avoid over heating. For some glueing tasks a little water extra water may be added but it is often used at a consistency similar to single cream. This glue sets as it cools and then dries and shrinks slightly producing one of the strongest natural glue bonds available. It is reasonably resistant to moisture but the bond can be released for repositioning using gentle heat. This glue should be kept dry before use, and sealed against moisture after use if it will be exposed to damp conditions. A little advice about using this glue. You will need to add water. The amount of water used depends on how thick/strong you want the glue to be for your intended purpose. As a guide enough water to just cover the granules. Then heat to 60 C or 140 F. If you don't have a glue pot you could use a glass jar inside the glass pot of a coffee peculator. (Do check to make sure this won't get you into trouble and don't try to make coffee at the same time.) Stir the glue occasionally. Some sources advise pre-soaking the granules before heating, some people just add water and then heat. You'll need to stir occasionally. After about 10 minutes heating the granules should be totally dissolved and the glue should be about the consistency of single cream. To check consistency, if the glue stick in blobs to the brush it's too thick, add a little warm water. If it runs from the brush in drips or droplets it is too thin, keep it in the heat, stirring occasionally until it thickens by water evaporation. If it runs from the brush in a single steady thread it is about right. The glue initially works by gelling as it cools, then drying so you will need to work fairly quickly. On some tasks (such as veneering) the gentle application of heat can allow adjustment. Final strength is achieved as the glue dries and shrinks. Warning - hide glue sticks well to natural materials, and very well to you so keep a bowl of clean water to wash your fingers in to avoid becoming too attached to your work. If you purchase more than one .I may combine them into one larger resealable bag. Please note that I accept payment via Paypal only.
