Bemerkungen: Brieffragment von Thomas de Quincey an Wordsworth mit Adresse und Unterschrift und Gruss von de Quincey.- Äusserst selten! /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// "De Quincey was best known for his Confessions of an English Opium Eater (1821). This scrap of a letter precedes that work by some years - it is addressed to Wordsworth at Grasmere, where the great poet lived (in Dove Cottage) from 1799 until 1808. The piece consists of the signing-off: ?Your sincere friend and servant, Thos. de Quincey? and Wordsworth?s address at the bottom. It?s no exaggeration to say that de Quincey worshipped Wordsworth. He began a correspondence with him in 1803 and in that first letter, the 17-year-old de Quincey wrote: ?You will never find any one more zealously attached to you, more full of admiration for your mental excellence and of reverential love for your moral character, more ready (I speak from my heart!) to sacrifice even his life, whenever it could have a chance of promoting your interest and happiness, than he who now bends the knee before you.? They finally met in 1807 and in 1809 de Quincey rented Dove Cottage after Wordsworth had left. He stayed in the area for another 12 years." /// Standort Wimregal Pkis-Box51-U004
