BLAIR No.1 Hawk-Eye 4"x5" Plate Camera c.1893-1898 - EXTREMELY SCARCE (T86). A very SCARCE Blair No.1 Hawk-Eye 4"x5" Plate Camera c.1893-1898. History: This wonderful vintage camera was made and stamped The European Blair Camera Co Ltd, London, England and was manufactured in America, prior to Eastman Kodak Co. buying the company. Camera Details: The camera is made of wood and faced with a leather covering. The three removable 4" x 5" plates sit in the rear of the camera's body and are stamped 'Patented May 15 83', with a divisional plate in front of the internal bellows. The camera has a lift up flap, which has the original signed & endorsed name of the camera from Blair. The front of the camera extends forward by about 4.5" (11.5cm), allowing overhead viewing and focus. Condition: * External - Leather is worn throughout, but importantly, the camera has not been restored * Internal - Good condition for year * Lens - Appears very clear and clean * Shutter - Checked & working * Bellows - Unchecked, as internal * Camera Plates - Excellent condition for year * Missing - It appears there is a missing wooden 'T' flap/gate that should sit behind the housed plates Remarkably, the lens appears extremely clear and the shutter still operates! Size: (Unextended/closed) Width 7" (18cm) x Depth 8" (20cm) x Height 6.5" (16cm) This Blair No.1 Hawk-Eye camera is without doubt, highly scarce and extremely collectible.
