2 x Roshield Rodent Proofing Paste

Mastic paste to prevent rat & mouse ingress
  • Prevents rodent & insect access
  • 100% non-toxic
  • Easy to apply
  • 300ml cartridge

Rodent proofing paste is a gap filler that is fast to apply and is also known as a pest-repellent mastic that once in place blocks access for vermin.  The unique softcore ensures that vermin are repelled as soon as they gnaw through the outer layer of material

This listing is for 2 x 300g

Pests such as rodents and insects occur everywhere. Mice and rats, in particular, are true masters at gaining access to areas where potential meals are stored. Rodents have a natural tendency to sharpen their front teeth constantly on items such as woodwork, plumbing and electrical wiring.

Rodent proofing paste stops this gnawing behaviour. When the mouse, rat or wasp, for example, reaches the softcore as it gnaws, it is deterred from continuing.

The gap filler is easy to use in existing or new buildings. Although you would not expect them in a new building, unwanted openings are often found; think of ducts for cables, in walls (cavity walls), connections for plumbing or in suspended ceilings.

The gap filler is suitable for sealing holes, cracks and seams, joints and expansion joints, settlement cracks and sewer connections.  Openings can vary between 5 mm and 10 cm in diameter. Because the gap filler conforms directly to the opening, the shape and finish of the opening is not relevant, provided the surface is dry and clean. The gap filler adheres well to concrete, stucco, masonry, drywall, plastics (such as trespa), metal and wood.

It is straightforward to use the mastic. A 300ml paste cartridge is inserted in a caulking gun. The opening is then sealed tight with the material in the gun. Take a look at the video above, which shows in detail how to use the product. Note: the layer of mastic should always be thicker than 10 mm to create a softcore.

Rodent proofing paste is fast to apply for protection against rodents and insects. The 300ml cartridge fits standard caulking guns. The mastic can be applied immediately after the nozzle has been cut off. A hard outer layer gradually forms on the mastic, but the barrier is active immediately. If it nibbles at a sealed opening, the mouse or rat will be deterred almost immediately by the composition of the mastic on the surface or underlying layer.

Rodent proofing paste is 100% non-toxic and contains natural fibres and oils. The strength of the product lies not in killing the vermin but in blocking their access. Because the gap filler is non-toxic, it is ideal for use in the food industry or areas where food products are stored or processed. Due in part to IPM (Integrated Pest Management), there is a constant search for preventive measures that can be taken to keep mice and rats out of buildings. Working within the IPM and HACCP systems, our proofing paste is an excellent solution for protection against vermin.

After the formation of the hard (oxygen-excluding) outer sealing layer, the mastic is completely water-resistant and has a life expectancy of 8 to 10 years. Even dirt will scarcely if at all, adhere to the surface. This makes the mastic ideal for inside or outside use. Rodent proofing paste can be used in environments with temperatures between -50c and + 90c

Rodent proofing paste forms an impenetrable barrier against vermin and retains its properties over an extended period. Because it is non-toxic and contains natural fibres and oils, it is both extremely durable and environmentally-friendly. By using this gap filler, you will not need to make any alterations to the building, thus saving on other materials. The use of this repellent mastic reduces the need to use toxic substances that are dangerous to the environment and animals.

The best-known method for coping with vermin is to use pesticides such as poisons. Because this often does not solve the problem and is certainly not animal-friendly, an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policy for pest control has an important role to play. The IPM approach does not control the symptoms (kill vermin) but actually solves the problem (removes the cause). Rodent proofing paste repellent mastic ensures that mice, rats and insects cannot reach potential food sources and remain away from the area involved.

Proofing against rodents

Before undertaking any rodent proofing works, we recommend that you survey the property; this will help highlight any possible entrance points, including ones you are unaware of. Pay particular attention to wall junctions, pipework and vents as a general rule; house mice will get through a hole the size of a small pencil and brown rats a 10p coin.

Typical entrance points include:

  • Missing or damaged air brick or vents
  • Around pipework on external walls
  • Weep holes and gaps in the mortar
  • Damaged soffits and fascia's

We recommend that you control any established infestation before undertaking proofing works; otherwise, it may hinder any present control treatment as well as potently forcing rodents from finding or creating new access points. However, we do appreciate that in some circumstances, proofing of rodents is the only approach if other control measures have had little success, especially when controlling mice within city centres.

Not all access points are visible, and in many circumstances, proofing cannot be undertaken. An example is that you are located in a flat or a mid-terraced building with no control of the surrounding voids and cavities. However, proofing should still be undertaken on a room-by-room basis to prevent internal ingress.

An area that is often overlooked is rats gaining access to the property via the drainage system. A fault within the pipe can be common and often goes undetected, leading to rats gaining access to internal cavities and gardens via tunnels under the ground. If you believe that this might be possible, we recommend placing a drain guard that creates a one-way system, thus preventing rats from accessing.

When possible, it is best to use a combination of materials; an example is our rodent proofing paste is best used in combination with a mesh to best protect against the highest pressures inflicted from large established infestations.

Roshield proofing options include:
Drain Guard Vent Guards Rodent Mesh
Proofing Paste Stainless Mesh Copper Mesh

Post-proofing

Once prevention has been undertaken, it is important to clean the areas to remove any bacteria and viruses associated with rodents. Rats, in particular, are a transmitter of several diseases, including Weil's, which can be harmful to both humans and pets.

Again at Roshield, we have a wide range of options that can complement the treatment process, including a 90% alcohol aerosol for treatment of a room or our sanitiser and cleaner concentrate spray, which is great for treating large areas that may have been frequented by rodents, such as kitchen cupboards and other voids.

About Us

About Fort Products

Fort Products Limited is an established pest control and remedial retailer specialising in amateur and professional kits designed to control a wide range of issues from rodent infestations to damp proofing. We have been established on eBay since 2003 and are the leading brand for pest control related products with over 100,000 positive reviews on eBay.

Our background started in 1996 by Craig who trained as a pest controller dealing with a wide range of infestations in numerous, and sometimes, complicated environments. Whilst the principle of pest control can be straight forward in reality every treatment can be unique and challenging, and certainly a job that evolves with experience. Craig formed his own service-related company in 2002 and quickly adapted to selling products online as the company starting growing. In 2003 we created our eBay marketplace shop selling a range of products, alongside the service side of the business.

In 2014 we decided to concentrate wholeheartedly on the supply side of the business, which included investing in products and kits that would be suitable for customers both from an amateur and professional perspective.

Our focus going forward is to concentrate on supplying products manufactured in the UK using products with an original British source or from a recycled product. An example would be our rodenticide baits that are sourced from cereals grown in the UK or our Roshield Baiter box that is produced from recycled plastics obtained from car dashboards and bumpers. Of course, some of our products are shipped from abroad, such as our rat traps, however, we do try to minimise and reassess regularly for alternative options.

Our long-term and future aim it to be carbon neutral and we are currently taking several steps to comply including the use of recycled materials throughout the packaging stages.

Fort Products Limited are BASIS approved and can legally sell professional rodenticide, subject to the customer can provide the necessary documents.
