English translation Peter Maffay | Loud & quiet | © 2005 BMG Records GmbH Made in the EU Condition: Used, but like new! CD, booklet and cover in perfect condition Information on musicians and works "Peter Maffay (born August 30, 1949 in Brașov, People's Republic of Romania, as Peter Alexander Makkay) is a German musician, singer, composer, guitarist and music producer of Romanian-German origin. At the beginning of his career he was known for Schlager; from 1974 onwards he played mainly country music and rock’n’roll with his band. In the further course he developed into one of the most successful German-speaking rock musicians. With 19 number one albums, he is by far the most successful artist in the German album charts. He is also a co-inventor of the fairy tale and cartoon character Tabaluga. Peter Maffay, son of a Transylvanian-Saxon mother and a Hungarian-German father, emigrated with his parents on August 23, 1963 from the Romanian city of Brașov to Waldkraiburg near Mühldorf am Inn in Bavaria. As a child he learned to play the violin. He switched from secondary school to the Ruperti grammar school in Mühldorf am Inn. With vacation work on the construction site, he earned money for his first guitar. In 1964 Maffay joined the newly formed band The Beat Boys as a guitarist, later renamed The Dukes. The band played songs by Bob Dylan, The Pretty Things, Small Faces, Herman’s Hermits, Cream, The Lovin’s Spoonful, The Kinks and Donovan in the “Weißer Hirsch” pub in Waldkraiburg, where they also had their first practice room. You performed in the region around Mühldorf and were a local celebrity within 50 kilometers. After he had to leave the grammar school in 1968 after not being promoted twice, Maffay began an apprenticeship as a chemigrapher in Munich, where he met his former schoolmate Margaret Kraus, daughter of Alfred Kraus. Together they founded the folk beat duo Peter & Margit, in which he also sang for the first time. They played songs by Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton and Paul Simon in the Munich club, Song Parnass. They sang the songs in German, English, French, Spanish, Hungarian, Romanian and Russian - all languages that Maffay also speaks. At that time they received 10 DM per person per appearance. A single was also released by the two. In 1969 Michael Kunze became aware of Maffay when he was looking for up-and-coming artists for self-written songs. On January 15, 1970, Du, produced by Kunze, was released as the first single by Maffay, who was still underage. On March 21, 1970 Maffay had his first television appearance in the ZDF hit parade. The hit parade made Maffay known in Germany, and Du became the biggest German-language hit of 1970. At the same time, the song was also placed in the charts of the Netherlands (gold), Norway, Austria, Belgium (gold) and Switzerland. Over a million singles have been sold. The success of Du was unattainable with the follow-up singles, with his manager Michael Conradt in 1973 the style also changed, which was first shown on our street on Saturday evening. During the remainder of the 1970s, Maffay became a big name in the music business with conventional country and rock’n’roll numbers and ballads. He went on excursions into country rock together with the German singer-songwriter Johnny Tame as Tame & Maffay. In the late 1970s and early 1980s Maffay made a stylistic change from country singer to "German rocker". With the 1.6 million times sold album Steppenwolf, a sales record at the time, Maffay made it to the top of the album charts in 1979. His second number one hit was So bist du on the album. The following album Revanche in 1980 was even more successful with the karat song Over seven bridges you must go, composition: Ed Swillms / text: Helmut Richter. To date, over 2.1 million records have been sold. Maffay experienced a low point in his career in 1982, when he appeared in several German cities in the opening act for the Rolling Stones, but was hardly accepted by the concert goers. Maffay was announced at the start of the tour in Hanover by Peter Wolf, the singer of the J. Geils Band, with the question of whether one liked "Schlager". During his subsequent performance, Maffay was pelted with tomatoes and eggs. For the 40th anniversary of the stage, Maffay recorded the album Tattoos, which apart from a sangeless intro and the song We disappear, contains new recordings of his greatest hits. The new versions were created with the support of the Wroclaw Score Orchestra. With tattoos, Peter Maffay came to number 1 in the album charts for the 14th time, making him the record holder in Germany. It was his 41st album in the charts; the previous albums were in the German album charts for over 1000 weeks, including Tabaluga and the signs of the times. In 2011 he recorded a new edition of his hit Nessaja with Bushido and Sido for their album 23 with Growing up. So far, 13 of his albums have sold over a million times, 19 of his albums reached number one in the album charts, both of which are the highest number of any artist in Germany. Maffay sold a total of almost 50 million records (as of 2012). Some of his tours had over 700,000 visitors per tour. As a result of the stylistic reorientation, a permanent line-up of the musical backing band emerged. The rhythm section consisted of Bertram Engel (drums) until 1988, and since 2017 also with Charly Klauser and Steffi Stephan (bass). Since Stephen's resignation from the band, this position has been occupied by Ken Taylor and, for a short time, Colin Hodgkinson. The keyboards were mainly played by Jean-Jacques Kravetz, whose son Pascal Kravetz played live for the first time in 1988. Between 1980 and 1985 Thomas Glanz was also active as keyboard player for Maffay, from 1986 to 1988 the arranger and composer Tony Carey. Numerous guitarists have played in the Peter Maffay Band so far, including Andreas Becker (1989–2004), Carl Carlton (since 1986), who with a short break (2005–2008) is also a songwriter and, in conjunction with Bertram Engel, the main producer, Alvin Lee (1991), and Peter Keller from 2004. The most important and influential guitarist was Frank Diez, founding member of the Peter Maffay Band and from 1974 to 2004 a congenial collaborator and creative partner of Peter Maffay. Occasionally wind instruments appeared in the Maffay arrangement, such as the saxophonist Eddie Taylor (until 1997). John Smith (saxophone) and Steve Howard (trumpet) have been with the band regularly since 2001. The saxophonist Everette Harp has been involved in recordings and live concerts since 2014. Peter Maffay often has guests, especially when performing live, and he gives them time and space for their own musical block. So far, they have included John Mayall, Julia Neigel, Chris Thompson, Johnny Tame and Meike Anlauff (Mayque). He works closely with Julia Neigel. She also wrote the lyrics for him for freedom, which I mean, do you see the sun and as a co-author don't give up love. The musician colleagues Marius Müller-Westernhagen, Scorpions, Peter Maffay and Klaus Lage founded Deutsche RockRadio GmbH in the late 1990s. The declared aim is to promote rock music in the pop-oriented radio landscape. On August 1st, 1998 the musicians Rockland Radio started their first nationwide program in Rhineland-Palatinate. Beyond rock music In addition to rock music, Maffay created a fairy tale with the Tabaluga series that includes six albums. In the 1990s, the accompanying musical was performed as a touring theater and from 1999 to 2001 also in Oberhausen. In addition, 78 animated episodes were produced. In 2015 the last album Tabaluga - Long live friendship was released. His album Encounters, released in 1998, broke new ground: Maffay played here with artists from all continents; among others with the Aboriginal band Yothu Yindi and musicians from Israel. The aim of this collaboration was to raise funds to support development aid projects under the title Encounters - An Alliance for Children together with World Vision Germany. World Vision contributed one million euros. He continued this in 2006 with the tour Encounters - An Alliance for Children, in which u. a. Shantel also took part. " (Source: Wikipedia) Laut und Leise is the 22nd studio album by Peter Maffay, released on January 31, 2005. The album reached number 1 in the album charts in Germany with well over 400,000 sales, went double platinum and stayed in the charts for 42 weeks, at least in Austria 47 and 4 weeks, in Switzerland 12 and 8 weeks. The publication was followed by a club tour and an open air tour with a total of 17 concerts at 16 venues in Germany with over 350,000 visitors (see sticker on the back of the cover). > "Laut & Leise" is the name of the double CD and the name says it all. While "Laut" rocks in routine Maffay manner, "Leise" features ballads accompanied by acoustic guitars. The surprise: Lukas Hilbert, a member of the "Popstars" jury, is responsible for most of the lyrics. It is strange that such lines come from Hilbert's pen, who, with his involvement with "Popstars", keeps the criticized machinery running. From the mouth of a Maffay who has been moving beyond the fast trends for decades, such a statement is again acceptable. "Leise" is much quieter and more personal: Here Maffay, underlined by acoustic guitars, invokes the power of love again and again and positions himself as a rock with songs like "Hold on to me" and "I will accompany you" the emotional surf. As with the last regular Maffay output "X", love is the central theme this time too. On "Laut" Maffay's music also conveys socially critical statements. "Do you recognize yourself" seems to hold up a mirror to right-wing extremist circles. Pithy words go in the direction of the media industry and its short-lived business - high-flyers are produced profitably and with relish dismantled: "There are no limits in the media battle / Only those who have power are right / The dictatorship of a derailed world / Give us the next five Minute hero. "<(Source: Laut.de review, review by Benjamin Fuchs) "You can't say that the rock audience that comes to Peter Maffay seems so much more rebellious than the hit listeners of the 60s. That should be the secret of Maffay's success: It is the synthesis. Between hard and soft, between political and shallow, between base and superstructure, between Bavaria and the Balearic Islands - or to put it with the title of his new record: between loud and quiet.
